Heartworms

Question
My daughter, a veterinarian, adopted very, very sweet dog that was abandoned at her clinic by its owner after he found discovered how much the bill was.  She (the dog) had probably been used by its owner as a puppy mill mother due to her unusual color.  She is 40 lbs and very probably part pit bull.  As a veterinarian, they treated her heartworms the usual way and have had her on steroids as well, then doxycycline due to a nipple infection.  It has been two weeks since her first injection of the heartworm meds, and she has now developed swelling of the joints in her legs and a second nipple infection - and I am quite worried about her.

I know my daughter will treat the way she was trained; however, I was wondering what alternative treatments I could add in addition to this to ease some of the toll this is taking on her body.  Anything you could suggest to lessen this sweet dog's suffering would be appreciated.

Answer
HI Annette
Thanks for your email.  I feel for the little dog - and all these toxins are just adding extra stress to her body.  She would at some stage require some liver detox homeopathics.  But I think that firstly you need to get her back to better health and off all the pharmaceuticals.
Fleeze - is a totally natural and herbal flea treatment that is added to daily meals -it is brilliant.
There are many herbal and homeopathic heartworm medications available:  www.holisticanimalmedicines.com.
Herbal Compound tablets (Made by Natural Rearing) are brilliant against infections.

But my first suggestion would be to email this information through to Robert McDowell.  He is an animal herbalist and will be able to make up a blend for your daughter's dog.  www.herbal-treatments.com

I do hope this helps and you are able to get this dog back onto her feet again - happy and healthy.
With thanks,
Silva.
