cat - excessive grooming

Hi Marie...I came across you e-mail when I goggled risks of Vetalog (which the vet has given 3 does to my cat (9 years old - spayed - strictly indoors).  She has always licked her under belly and inside of lets almost to the point of having no hair and itching so much that she has scabs around neck and head.  I prolonged not giving her steroids until recently and tried anti-histamines...but she's almost impossible to "pill".  Any suggestions?  I feed her a high end dry food (but there's lots of vomiting with dry food probably due to hairballs.  She only likes Fancy Feast and human grade shrimp.  Other high end cat foods Weurva, wellness, Tiki cat, she seems to throw up, but not fancy feast.  Any suggestions for supplements - fish oil?  I've purchased sprays for hot zones, but am wondering how safe that is due to her licking all the time.  Thanks for any assistance you can give me!

Wow Paula, POOR kitty!  YOU are sure there are NO ear mites?  They can live very deep inside the ear .... I have 2 indoor cats that have them and need to be treated often.  There were rescus and I have had a tough time getting the mites under control.  WE need to do the ear meds and then a follow up a few weeks later.

If she won't eat any of the better foods then I don't know what to say?   YOU are what you eat.
Will she eat some home cooked turkey ( ground turkey)????  that's an option.
If you cook for her place some NuVET Feline powder into the meats.
