food/supplements for cat with IBD & pancreatitis

Question
My 15 1/2 year old cat has IBD and chronic pancreatitis. Therefore it's a struggle to get him to eat enough. So far the best canned food for him is Royal Canin hypoallergenic rabbit. Tried the dry version yesterday and he immediately had indigestion and diarrhea. I was wondering if you had any experience on whether any of the following natural supplements might help him:

Linatone
Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes & Probiotics
Omega 3 fish oil
Vet's Best Hairball Relief & Digestive Aid
Slippery Elm Bark powder
Canned pumpkin

Any suggestions of other canned food options or other supplements would be appreciated also.

Thanks
Theo

Answer
Good Morning Theo,

Yes, we have lots of experience with IBD and the key is to get it under control first. Using natural supplements and dietary choices will manage the IBD in your cat...but it may take some time and patience.

First, we recommend going to your regular vet and take the necessary supplements/drugs to get it under control. BUT...do this for a very short period of time...ONLY. While this is going on try and find a veterinarian who specializes in Chinese medicine and dietary control for issues. There are fabulous Chinese herbs and digestive enzymes that can help you with this. Remember every animal is different so the treatment for you kitty is not the same for another.

Since IBD in animals is a protein allergy it is critical you find the protein that works. We love the canned Evanger's Duck and Rabbit as well as Natural Balance Duck and Potato. Also Aloe Vera juice is very important and usually works for all animals.

The products you mentioned above might not be appropriate for your cat as they could also cause irritation. They are all good natural supplements but again IBD is so tricky to treat and you have to find what works for your cat.

Please let me know if I can help you any further with this challenging issue. I know what you are going through. But our 10.5 year old dog has be managed all naturally for her IBD.

Warmly,
Wendy
