THE VET SAID TABLE SCRAPS CAUSED THIS SITUATION..SAID THE NEXT 24 HRS IS CRITICAL.  WHAT DOES THIS SOUND LIKE, I AM A PHARMACIST AND DID NOT GO WITH MY DAUGHTER TO VET AND CAN NOT REACH VET TO QUESTION

Answer
Hello Lynn -

I cannot be certain as to a diagnosis but it sounds like a severe infection. I don't know if table scraps would be the cause unless the dog obtained food poisoning but then you would be sick as well. I don't know how much faith I would put in that diagnosis. If the pet eats table food on a regular basis, although some vets say it is bad for pets because of high cholesterol and fat levels, his system should be use to digesting the proteins. His body would be producing enzymes to break down the food.

I am at a loss here and I am sorry I cannot give you a definite answer. Keep the dog on the medication and see how he looks. At the first sign of a problem, take him to the vet and have them run x-rays, blood tests etc.

Is it possible your pet may have had an injury to his stomach or lower abdomen area? Did he fall down or land on something hard while playing? He may have bruised himself internally and may have caused heavy internal bleeding. He may possibly also have a tumor of some sort. Did the vet do an x-ray on his stomach area?  Just couple things to consider. The reason I am saying this is because the vet issued Vitamin K and that is used to promote blood clotting.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Thank you and best wishes to you and your pet.
Please keep me posted on his condition.
