Question
QUESTION: Hello
My dog is experiencing loose stools -lasted 2 weeks, cleared up and now is back again.

Blood work/stool extraction done already.  Nothing shows up.
She is also spending time under the bed {never did before in 4 years}
She snapped at me {never did before}

She eats an organic diet of chicken, sushi rice, bit of pumpkin, and broccoli, along with vit/min, probiotic, greek yogurt.

I am unknowingly stepping in poop all over and don't know what to do.

I don't want medication to stop this without knowing what the problem might be.

The vet who just did the work-up is an experienced internist, so where do I go from here?

Can you  make any suggestions?

Thank you,

Stella

ANSWER: Hi Stella,  POOR you and poor dog.  I wonder if this girl is in pain?
How is her gait, walk? Do you notice anything wrong with her when she walks?

Did they do a test for Guardia? Make sure they did a stool test and looked for this parasite.

Can you tell me what meds your dog is taking?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Hello again
I don't notice any difficulty when she walks.
The test on my bill says:
fecal ova, parasites & giardia.

I couldn't get a stool specimen that day, so the clinic extracted it.
I hope it was reliable.

She does not take any medication.

Her appetite is good, but she eats home-cooked food, so she's always ready to eat.

She cried out once, and another time snapped at me recently when I went to dry her paws.
I think there  is something wrong and don't know what is causing her to wince/cry/snap when I come near her to collar/uncollar, wipe her paws and body?

There seems to be two issues going on and I don't know if they are related.

Stella

Answer
Sounds like pain or discomfort.  Could be all over body discomfort from virus in her intestines? Is it possible she injured her back or spine?

You can try a very bland diet for the loose stool problem.  Her intestines could be very inflammed and that will cause much discomfort.

Here is a bland recipe to use for the next 5 days.
