Question
Silva,
Marie Peppers suggested I contact you for help with my 13 1/2 yr old border collie.
Some background info; 10/07 he had an FCE, recovery was remarkable, 11/07 he had surgery for a ruptured disc again recovery was remarkable. During this time MRI's showed other compressed disc in the lumbar region.
He is on prednisone and tramadol at this time, the stenosis progressed to the point he could not get up if he was not taking the prednisone. I am trying to find something that might help so I can wean him off the steroids.
He eats Candida senior, 900mg Boswellia a day and Ark Naturals Joint Rescue. Fish oil was hard on his stomach. The stenosis is beginning to effect his bladder and bowel control.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Grace

Answer
Hi Grace
Have you tried him on any acupuncture?  This can be very useful for these conditions, as can a therapy known as Cranio Sacral Therapy.

He seems to be on good quality supplements etc...
I agree that it would be great to get him off the cortisone and onto something more natural.  My only concern is that the natural products can take a couple of weeks sometimes to get into the system and at his age I would hate for him to be in any sort of discomfort.

You can contact Robert McDowell - he is an animal herbalist - and he can make up a remedy for your boy:  www.herbal-treatments.com

If you contact Maureen Rogers at Equine Craniosacral therapies - www.equinecraniosacral.com she will be able to advise of a practitioner for dogs in your area.  You may find regular sessions will make a difference for him.

I hope that this is helpful.
I wish you and your boy all the best.
Kind regards
Silva.
