My cat s ears seem to itch him all the time, HELP

Question
QUESTION: I have had my Ozzy for about 6 years. He lived in a veternarian's office befor that, but has always had very itchy ears. He's has always been an indoor cat and the vet that had him said he was just obsessive about his ears. She said there was nothing wrong with his ears, but there clearly is. Other vets have checked him for mites and other reasons for his digging his ears, but never found a reason for it.  I just want him to be able to relax and quit digging at his ears. It's got to be an allergy, right? Help!! Thanks,
Linda & Ozzy

ANSWER: Dear Linda,
If it is an allergy, the place to start is to put him on a hypoallergenic natural food such as Indigo Moon by Solid Gold.  It is fabulous!!! Another thing I highly recommend is to give him a pre-made, balanced frozen raw food diet such as Raw Health or Rad Cat as at least 50% of his total diet. In general these foods will handle most allergy problems. Also, if you are feeding him out of plastic bowls, discard them and obtain ceramic or glass food and water bowls.

If you do the above and still nothing happens after a month or so, you may want to consider using a homeopathic remedy or Flower Essences geared toward relieving stress and re-balancing his energy. The right remedy would take some research on your part. If you need help, feel free to write again. I would need considerably more specific information, so it may even be advantageous to call me by phone: 727-327-2356.

Keep in touch.

QUESTION: I would also like to ask about Vitamin D for my Ozzy. Since he is always indoors, should I be giving him vitamin supplements like D?

Answer
Greetings once again Linda :0)

A complete vitamin/mineral  supplement that includes the appropriate amounts of D, A and Calcium would be safer than just supplementing with D alone. Also, you may want to put a full spectrum light over somewhere that he enjoys hanging out.
