Question
Chubbz in the Snow
Chubbz in the Snow
QUESTION: I have an 18 month old American Bulldog. For the last 8 months he has been
getting reoccurring lumps between his pads on his paws. Although I like my
vet I have spent over $3,000 trying to clear his feet and keep them clear.
Antibiotics seem to be masking the problem not solving it, and honestly I'm
worried I'm damaging his body with all the medicine he has been on. It
doesn't appear to be seasonal, it has come back wether it is summer or
winter... I just want relief for my dog. we are currently cooking home mad
food to see if it helps. Please any help or suggestions would be much
appreciated.

ANSWER: Thanks for the photo of Chubbz!!!  YOU would never know there is a problem with this kid.
Sure, I would love to help you two.  Please let me know what the VET'S diagnosis was or is???? Also, what has your vet used besides antibiotic pills and ointments.  Also, any supplements or herbs being used right now?

I sure would like to help you!  My suggestions are mostly Natural, Safe and low cost.

QUESTION: The Vet has not diagnosed it at all. He tried treating it as mange but the
medicine(Ivermectin Suspension) did nothing to help his feet so after 2
months of being on it he ruled that out. He curently has him on 1,000mg
of Cipro twice a day. His last time on antibiotics it was a cocktail of Cipro,
Primor and Clindamycin for 3 months straight... he is currently 10lbs
underweight and I am worried it's from all the medicine. As for washes
we have tried T8 Keto Flush, Hibiclens and Epsom Salt. He is extremly
active and goes on 45 minute walks everyday... but sometime I second
guess even walking him due to the condition of his his feet. I am hoping
that there is a more natural way to treat him. I'm also looking to put him
on a higher quality dog food, as of 2 weeks ago the Vet suggested I take
him off the Purina puppy chow(which was the food suggested by the
breeder)currently I am cooking his food but you can imagine how difficult
and expensive it is to cook daily for a 110lb dog. Last week I tried to
introduce dry food (Royal Canin) into his diet and that night his "boils"
got worse. At this point I'll try anything just to get him some relief and
hopefully off the medicine. Thank you for responding so fast I really
appreciate it!

Answer
Wow!  I would love to help you two!!!
Well, your vet has sure given it a good try.
Yes, let's try some Natural options for this boy:
First - I want you to look into the booties for all Walks.
That is great about the 45 minute walks.

Here is a good web site - nice booties:
High performance boots:
http://handicappedpets.biz/xcart/high-performance-boots.html

This boot can be for the paws that are very bad:
http://www.petboots.com/protboot/index.htm
Just examples of paw protection when he is outside of the home.
Not just for walks but also for around the yard, if possible.
( once the areas clear up - you would just need the paw shoes for walks off your property)

Next, I sure don't like the Royal Canine / How about offering him some of your food ( 1/2 the home cooked food ) and 1/2 some Wellness CORE Ocean fish flavor only.  Let me know if you can't find this in your local pet store.  ( Wellness CORE - Ocean )

Also, I would love to see this kid on some Probiotics and
NuVET Plus..

This bullie boy will need 2 of the Flora Force Probiotics per day for 10 days / after that, you can go to 1 per day for 20 days.
Nature's Sunshine sells it:

Let's get rid of the Yeast in his paws... Also, helps with allergies and general healing.

NuVET - You will see results in Less and 30 days - give him 2 per day for 1 month.  After that, he may be able to go to just 1 NuVET wafer per day.
