Rescued female pit bull with rash; nuvet wafers and Barking at the Moon:

Hello Marie, I have been surfing to find some answers and came upon a response you gave to another person.
We rescued a female pit bull yesterday from our friends 25 acre vineyard in California..just outside of Sacramento.  It was a breeding female and appears to had been abandoned by it's owners who forclosed on their home.  She was likely without regular feedings for at least 2 weeks.  She is home with us temporarily and I am wondering about her pink face.  She has almost no fur around her mouth nose and eyes.  She is white with brown nose and brown eyes.  I fed her what we have for our dogs...Nutro max and of course she has very loose stools.  What dry food and supplement would you recommend?  She is very narrow at the waist and her ribs are showing...likely between 6-10 lbs need to be gained.
She is very sweet but in the face looks so sad.  Thank you for any direction, Hallie, Sacramento California

Hello Hallie - Wonderful of you to help this pitbull girl.

Ok, if there is a pet store or feed store give her some BARKING at the MOON by Solid gold / feed wet and dry mixed.
If you can't find that then give her your food plus Merrick Canned Wet food mixed or even Wellness Canned mix to your dry food.

As for the loose stools - buy a wormer from the pet store
( panacure) is a good brand.  Follow the directions.

Also- Feed her some Metamucil cookies ( the apple wafer/cookie comes in a 2 pack)  Give her 1 Metamucil cookie per day... will help to add bulk to a soft or loose stool.
Continue the Metamucil for at least 3 weeks.

Also, Please call the NuVET folks and get her onto 2 NuVET wafers per day for the next month and then she can go down to just 1 NuVET wafer per day - They are located in your area - call in and they will send it out on Monday-  NUVET will help to rebuild the immune system and re-grow some of the hair she has lost.  Many pitbulls are pink in the face anyway, but I am sure she has lost hair from neglect.
