Question
hi, i have a 4wk old pitt bull sharpe mix his mom got killed and we've noticed that he acts as if his always hungry no matter how much or how often we feed him I've recently gave him worm meds and have seen worms like spaghetti and some bloody mucus its not much but still concerned is it the worms or something more? please help point us in the right direction

Answer
The worms that you are seeing are round worms and very typical puppy worms.  Wait about 10 days then worm him again. If the bloody mucus persists after worming, take a stool sample to a vet to see if there are hook worms present. Do not let the vet vaccinate the puppy until you are sure that he is very strong and healthy because until he is, the vaccine can cause the disease it is meant to prevent plus a plethora of other serious complications. You may want to research this on line. Go to a vet well informed so you can say NO and stand up for your puppy's health.

What are you feeding him? If you are in an area that you can find raw goat milk (possibly at a health food store)you might consider adding a little to his food for several weeks. Also, I would recommend a combination of Solid Gold's Hunchen Flocken and a pre-prepared raw food diet. These should be available at a holistically oriented pet store. The mix of breeds that you have are both extremely prone to skin issues if fed your basic dog food. Avoid foods containing wheat, corn, soy, dairy and/or beef even in quality natural foods, and ,needless to say, always get chemical and by-product free foods. Believe me, good food may cost more, but the money that you will save by going natural and hypoallergenic will more than compensate for it over the life of your dog.

Also avoid toxic, spot on the back flea treatments. These can cause chronic skin problems as well. Go natural with flea prevention. Go to http://www.critteroil.com for lots of information on natural flea control, holistic pet care and for Critter Oil. Good food,by the way is the first step toward flea prevention because it helps to create a maximally healthy animal. As a parasite, the job of the flea and other parasites is to eliminate the not maximally healthy from the gene pool and the food chain. Nature was made to work! We don't have to fight it if we just get smart enough to work with it.

Good luck with you pup,and please keep me posted as to his progress. Thanks!
