Bubbles on my tank

Question
I recently transferred my goldfish from a 1 gallon tank to a 5 gallon tank.  I know I will need a bigger tank soon enough.  I am not sure what kind of goldfish it is.  My 3 year old picked it out.  The new tank is from Marineland.  A Hex 5 that came with a Bio Wheel.  In our old tank we never checked the ph levels and changed the water and cleaned the tank weekly.  But I guess I will go out and be doing that from now on.  Before moving the fish to the new tank it did run for 24 hours and I acclamated the fish by adding new water before transferring him.  I have noticed since moving the fish there are what seem to be air bubbles on the sides of the tank and bottom of the filtration assembly.  What causes this and is this something to worry about?  Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Melanie;

The bubbles are quite normal for a new tank. The suspended gasses and tiny air bubbles in your tap water are trying to dissipate and they just collect on things in your tank. You might notice it happens in a glass of water left out for a few hours. Same thing and nothing to worry about.

Sounds like you have everything pretty well under control. I'm so glad you know more about goldfish now so you can graduate him to a larger tank soon. Test the water to monitor the levels of ammonia and nitrite so you will know when to make water changes as it goes through the break-in period. Normally your tank would need a weekly 25% change but it may need it more often until the break-in is over. Your test results will tell you when it is needed.
