Question
We have an old Jack Demsey Fish.  He is beginning to fade on color and is not as aggressive as he use to be.  He use to rule the tank, now he cowers at the bottom of the tank of in the corner.  I think he is just getting old and getting ready to pass.  Is he sick, or just old?

Answer
Hi Jenniffer;

Poor old guy. They live to be 7 to 10 years or so. If he is in that range it may be he is at the end of his life. You might try a series of partial water changes to help his metabolism and immunity. Replace 25% of the water every 3 or 4 days and hopefully it will help him feel a bit better. It may help to isolate him so he doesn't get picked on too. Sometimes fish do that to other weak ones. That would be sad after such a long and strong life.  Good luck....
