Scars from Ick?

My goldfish has just recently recovered from ick and he seems to be missing a few scales along his back in the same pattern where the ick was attached. Are these scars from the ick or something else? Will it heal by itself?

Hi Jessica,
If your fish appears to be losing scales this could be a water quality problem. Its either from ammonia burns or the fish rubbing against sharp objects to relieve irritation. Check your water quality for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Ick isn't supposed to leave scars on the fish.
