Zebra Finch living on cage floor

Question
I have a zebra finch that hatched in mid February. When he was a fledging I noticed he attempted to fly and perch onto the poles but couldn't. He spends his time on the cage floor. One of his foot slightly sticks out and that foot sometimes slips. He could stand and walk with occasional slipping. I've put him in a separate cage with only a bowl of food and water. When he's scared, he will spazz out and jump everywhere causing injuries and a bit of bleeding. I wanted to know if there was anyway I could help my bird and make it more easier for him to live. Hes been living on the floor his whole life.

Answer
Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it's possible for this bird to live like a regular bird. I have had birds that have had this problem. The best you can do is keep the cage litter soft and clean, have food and water for him. Having more rope perches (available at any pet store) can sometimes help. The spazzing out part is normal for an bird that is not hand tame. What can help with that is to cover three sides of the cage and when you have to have your hand in the cage move around in the cage slowly and don't make direct eye contact with the bird. This will HELP but he'll still act somewhat like a headless chicken.
