baby finches

My mating pair of zebra finches had a clutch of chicks. Everything was going fine they where feeding them and taking good care of them. then I cleaned the cage plus put two more cages with the precious chicks they had months early right next to them. I woke up today all 3 chicks where died. Did cleaning out the cage and putting separate cages next to them upset the pair to kill the chicks?

That is quite possible. When there's babies, you want to disturb the parents and babies as little as possible. Also, if you used a chemical cleaner, that could have killed the babies as well. I only clean nesting material when there's babies in a cage and even that is if I know the parents won't abandon the babies
