Question
I have a red tail boa I adopted from a private home a year ago. up until a month ago - no problems. Now- she snaps at me any time I go near her. She tries to bite any time i put my hand in her cage. I don't know what to do. I don't want her to sense my hesitancy - BUT I don't want to get bit, HELP?

Answer
Hey Eve

The only way to get them to stop biting...is to get bit. Elbow length leather gloves are a wonderful way to keep from getting hurt and boosts your confidence. If the snake is smaller, under 3 feet, then a thick sweatshirt will work for the arms. It may take several bites to get her to realize that you aren't going to do anything wrong. Just reach in and take her out. Keep her away from your face and don't try to restrict her very much so she doesn't associate you with a potential not-fun situation. I would do this for about 5-10 minutes at least once a day.
