Question
i have 2 red tail boas they live in a large aquarium one boa is about foot and a half and the other is over 2 feet i noticed my small red tail had weird mark behind its head then i realized its a bite  shes not hurt but my large boa follows me every time i walk past the tank and as i was holding the smaller boa i went to put her away and the larger boad started headed twards her as if it was food but i take them out of their tank and in toats separitly to feed  and once the smaller one got into the tank it looked as if it took off behind her water bowl to hide but they normally sleep in a ball with each other but last couple days the bigger snake has been sleeping on its branches..im a little confused on the situation!!please help me solve this mystery they are held almost daily sometimes both at once.

Answer
Christopher,

First question I have is what are the genders of your snakes? I had two females in the same tank and they lived there everyday just fine with no problems. Boas are solitary animals in the wild so generally shouldnt be housed together because it's not natural. Now, where you will really run into a problem is if they are both males, because then they will start having dominance issues. In the wild a male will run any other males in the area off so it has access to any females that might be around.

With any gender, boas will have territorial problems, as I said they are solitary animals. If one wants a hiding spot or to be near the water dish and it doesnt want the other one there, they will fight.

Feeding them more could help, but hunger is not why one is attacking the other. This seems like an obvious territorial/dominance problem you're having. The only solution is to start housing your snakes seperately.

If you have any more questions about this please ask. Thanks!
