Milk, Garter or Corn Snake?

22 15:36:16

Question
I like the Milk snake that looks like the coral snake....just not poisonous lol. You know the ones that have Yellow Red and Black strips like that? Im basically just looking for something thats not very aggressive and they said milk snakes usually dont grow bigger than around 3 feet or so. I guess i would "ask a expert" and see which is best but i know which is best looking.

Answer
Looks are actually the LAST thing you should be looking at. :P Though I have to admit that is a big bonus.

I like the apricot, black and red milksnakes myself. Gorgeous. I have never really gotten that into them though, because the few milksnakes I have handled weren't very happy being touched. But I also know they didn't get handled much.

Milksnakes (also known as kingsnakes. Milksnake is due to an old wives tale that they would drink all the milk from the cows) do get smaller than both the Garter and the cornsnake in general. I don't see them as much due to their high price tag.  They are just as easy as cornsnakes so I hear. Garter snakes still win on the flexibility for food, as both the milksnake and cornsnake need mice (Though the milksnake will eat a variety of other meat if needed). Garter snakes don't seem to be as "clingy" as cornsnakes and want to keep moving.

The milksnake you are talking about is a Mexican milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum annulata). There are more than a few milksnakes with similar coloring, but this one is probably one of the most distinct bandings.
