Female Capret Python

Question
We have a female carpet python, about 7 feet long. She is around 8 or 9 years old. Lately she has been acting pretty lethargic, we do have a heat lamp for her although it isn't a very good one. Normally she stays up around the top of her cage on driftwood that we have set up for her, but lately she has been staying on the bottom in the shredding. We noticed earlier her body seemed to be twitching every now and then like she is coughing or sneezing. We checked her skin, found no physical damage, she isn't wheezing, and there aren't any bubbles coming out of her nose. We have never had a single problem feeding her (we use dead rats that have been frozen and thawed out) but we put a rat in her cage today and she didn't move until we tease fed it to her, which we have never had to do before. Any ideas on what could be wrong with her or how to fix this?

Answer
Hi Ashley,

I think she is just getting to hot around the heat lamp and looking for a cooler area. It does not sound like there is anything wrong with her. There could be one thing and that is that she is an adult and is ready to breed. Snakes wil act a little wierd in the winter months. They feel the temp drop even if we do not.

Hope this helps,
Eric
