Snakes eye

Question
I am new to the snake world up till a few months ago I was like most people and didn't like snakes till my g/f got one and I fell in love. Now I own a Grey Banded King and he has a spot on his eye now to me it looks like dead skin or something but she has not shed once yet since I got her so I know it's not left over skin from shed that just didn't come off I am just wondering if it is still possible that it is just skin and that once she does shed it will be fine. Also about how often should they shed. When I bought her about.... a month and a half ago she had a shed skin in her tank so I assume she had just finished shedding a day or so before I bought her. I hope I have given you enough to give me an answer. If you need a picture of the eye in question I can try and get one but with a Auto Focus Digital camera it is difficult to get a close up on her eye I have tried lol thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Answer
Those are gorgeous snakes. :D Congrats.

It might be a piece of skin, or it might be an eye infection. An infection is unlikely, but I don't want to rule it out. I don't know how old your snake is, so the period of time it takes between sheds will vary. Babies will typically shed every 1 to 1.5 months. A shed is usually started by the eyes whiting out, or becoming white in color about a week prior to a shed. How is the humidity in the tank? Do you have a place for him to completely immerse himself? It might be a good idea to do a bit of soaking of your own by taking a bucket (any will do as long as he can't get out of it) filling it about an inch deep with warm water, and putting in a few towels. Place him in it and drape a towel over him, allowing him crawl out on his own. Do this for about 15 minutes then see if the piece of skin on his eye will come off. If it doesn't, it may be time to see a herp vet.
