strange behavior in kingsnake

Question
Our e. kingsnake seemed to be violently 'hiccupping', which I know they can not do but that is the most identifiable thing I can compare it to. The entire front half of his body was convulsing on and off for a few minutes. He seems fine now but it is something we've never seen him do. He had not recently been fed, shed a few weeks ago and was not blueing...we are just interested what might have been going on.

Answer
It is most likely a mating behavior or some other sort of display. As long as he is eating, chances are that he is good. When they stop eating or have odd stools that is the time to be concerned. Personally, I have never seen this type of behavior in a king snake, but have seen something similar in corn snakes and other colubrids.
