Restless snake

Question
I have a 5 year old female corn snake.  Yesterday We fed the snake her usaual 2 live mice, we do feed one at a time.  The second mouse struck her upper lip but did not tear it just left 2 little puncutr hole barly visable.  She did not try to eat it after that. She seemed very agatated for the rest of the night.  Today we fed her 2 frozed fuzzys which she ate insantly.  We fed her today agin because when we put our hand in her tank she struck at me and she has never done that.  She is usally a very calm and friendly snake. We have her out of her tank everyday.  I'm not sure if she is still hungry or angry. She is very very restless moving all over her cage, if you walk by she lifts her head way up high and follows you where every you walk.  She will follow your finger if you move it about on the out side of her tank.  Her bottom half down by her vent looks a little swallon too.  Not the vent but her body its self. She has poop.  Shes very alert and restless.  I do not know why it is 1 am here in alberta and shes usally asleep by 11pm but shes still moving about. I dont know if i should feed her more or not.  I dont want to over feed her. She wont lay down she keeps her head up and looking out at the room and the tip of her tail curves up.  Also she shackes her tail when you try to touch her. thats an everyday thing the tail shacking.  but she stops shacking it the moment you pick her up. So what I'd like to know is
1) is she still hungry
2) is she going to lay eggs
3) why is she so restless
4) why does she seem so agitated

any advice would be great.

Thnak you for your time

Answer
Hi Virginia.
I will answer your questions directly.
1. I doubt she is still hungry. I feed my corn one rat every 2 weeks and she seems to do great on that schedule. I would not feed her any more until the next scheduled feeding.

2.I am not sure. It sounds more like a feeding issue. Be careful about ever feeding live. Every time you feed live, your snake is at risk for injury and that sounds like that is what happened here. Your snake might have just been nicked, but it sounds like enough to throw her off.

3&4. Snakes sometimes become agitated for no apparent reason. It could be seasonal, it could have to do with the mouse bite, we really dont know.

What concerns me the most is the lump you describe. I have seen these develop in colubrids and death follows close behind. I don't want to alarm you but either take her to the vet or keep a close eye on her for the next bit. I strongly advise that you change over to exclusively frozen food. These present no risk to your snake and have a huge ups ode when compared to live. Keep and eye on her for the next couple of days and let me know if I can be of further help.
