Question
My little baby giunea pig named star whom I just bought from Petco 5 days ago suddenly had her eyes mat shut today. I took a warm washcloth and wiped her eyes real well and they opened. I noticed a whitish discharge coming from them. I am figuring she has a cold or pneumonia and am taking her to the vet. Do you have any ides or experience in this matter ? I am so worried about her as I don't want to lose my baby.I figure she was sick when I got her, as when I brought her home she wasn't eating hardly anything or drinking, I just figured she needed some time to adjust is all. Please let me know as soon as possible what you think. I am not going to take her back to Petco and let them treat her as I have heard too many horror stories. Thank you so much, Tracy

Thanks for your question!

Good for you for cleaning your guinea pigs eyes. That's what I do with my guinea pigs as well. If you are worried of infection or something like it. Using polysporin eyedrops will help greatly! They did with my guinea pigs.

Also. Taking your guinea pig to the vet is a really good idea! The lack of food and water can easily shut a guinea pigs system down, thus resulting in death. Force feeding and watering your guinea pig when you can would be the best thing.

The veterinarian will know what to do with your guinea pig. They will provide any necessary antibiotics that may be neeeded.

Best wishes with your guinea pig!
