Question
We have a young male guinea about four weeks old who does not
like anything except pellets, hay and carrots.  Two days ago he
staarted having trouble with his back legs and ambulation. Quickly
he went downhill ....not eating/drinking and showing signs of nasal
discharge/resp distress.  My spouse is a md  and he initiated cipro
antibiotic treatment.Since  then i have read about vit c defiency and
started syringe feeding cruched vitc tablets and oj to him.  He is
improving. Today he stumbles around as if he is learning to
walk.He resp/congestion is better but he squeals as if he is sore if
we pick him up.Is there something else we should do or stay on
this path for now

Answer
Hello Shelia,

The only thing I would change is orange juice to oranges (peels too, just not seeds). That way you can avoid added sugars, presevatives and other things that may be added to the juice that he doesn't need. Of course if he won't eat the oranges, continue the juice. I'll also give you a list of high in C veggies and fruits they can have for you to try in the future so neither of you have to go through this again. It will take a few weeks usually to get back to normal. I would also suggest a vet visit if possible to make sure that's all that's going on. Good luckand best wishes for your little guy to make a full recovery.
