Question
We r trying 2 pick-up our guinea pig 4 the first time using our hands. She doesn't like it! How long do u think it will take her 2 get used 2 it? How is the best way 2 pick her up? Also, she has 2 different colored feet; is that normal? One foot is pink and the other is a grey/brown color. She has been really moody lately; what's wrong with her?

Hello Katherine,

It's unlikely she will ever get used to being picked up. Being picked up is very frightening to them because for a few moments they are suspended in air with no security and they think they are going to fall. Most will quickly learn to enjoy being held though. That usually won't take very long. Picking her up is best done by putting a hand behind them and the other in front and just scoop them up. To different colored feet is normal. It just means one foot has a white or light spot and the other has a dark spot. If she is new, her moodyness is likely just part of the adjustment period.
