Hamster skin problem

Question
I own 2 hamsters, 1 winter white and another one is a roborovski. My winter white hamster's fur is shedding a lot, until the area behind his ear is bald already. I also found that a weird kind of white or rather yellowish dried pus look alike thingy sticking out of the infected area. Is this due to infection? I've tried feeding him alfafa, but he refuse to take it. And now, my roborovski hamster is showing the same symptoms. It is balding at the tummy area and there is a red rash mark there. Is it normal for winter white hamster to have a small lump near the front legs? I am very concerned...Shall I bring my 2 hamsters to the vet?

Answer
hi joanne, cool name lol

i looks like your hamsters have caught mites, buy some anti mite spray and spray them all over, avoiding the eyes, mouth and nose. then clean out and spray their cages. if ths doesnt work. see a vet.

thank you for your question and please feel free to ask again, let me know how you got on.

joanne :)
