hamster scratching and biting non-stop

Question
Hi there,

About 23 days ago we tried to breed my daughters hamster for the 2nd time (the first went very well). She is a Russian Dwarf hamster.  We intoduced her to the male and waited for the results.  It has been well over the gestation period and we are noticing a few things.
1.she is itching and biting non stop
2. has excess skin under her cheeks (not were I would expect if she were pregant)
3. I looked closely tonight and she has white bumps that look sore on her stomach.

Here is my problem,  She is nesting, hording food, agressive, and acting pregant.  She doesn't look like she is and is past her due date if she is.  I do not know if I should take her to a vet (if I can even find one for hamsters)because I don't know if she could be pregant.  Can you help

Could the white bumps be nipples and can she itch excessively due to them?  Why would gestation be so long?  The bumps look sore and infected.  She has about 4 of them.

Answer
she probably has mites and she should see a vet asap. I would just look in the phone book for a small animals vet. She may not be pregnant at all, she may be very sore from the infection of mites that are under her skin. Sometimes hamsters can have false pregnancies as well and sometimes they can get so stressed out as well The mites can cause the hamster to have funny, scaley looking skin as well as scratched and infected looking bumps or sores. Ivermectin shots, that the vet gives, help get rid of the mites over time. I hope i have answered your questions, good luck and keep me posted.
