Question
My vet told me that when my 7 month old dog got her first period there would be no bleeding and that we would only be able to tell from the male dog. This was true We noticed from our Male dog that our female was in heat. 2-3 weeks later when we thought it was over She starts bleeding. like she is having her period again except this time our male dog didnt try humping her he only sniffed and licked it. She has been bleeding for about a week now. i dont know if this is normal, good, bad....
ps. Her vagina seems a bit swelled to me.

Answer
Hi Johnny

A female can come into what is refered to as a split heat or pre heat.

Now is the time you want to keep your female away from all males.   She will be ready for breeding after the bleeding stops for the next 2 weeks.

Typically the process goes like this.   First the female will become aggitated or more playful, then there is swelling in the vuluva, finally she will start to bleed and between 9 to 21 days after the bleeding she will be prime for breeding.

Good luck
