Nursing Chihuahua

My chi had 5 pups on Thursday. 3 have died. I thought I could feel a hard lump in her abdomen that felt like a retained pup. Took her to the vet on Friday. They did an x-ray and said there was nothing skeletal. It is now Sunday and I can still feel the lump. Momma has a fever of 103 and does not want to eat. She is looking very weak. Could they have missed a skeleton on the x-ray?

X-rays are pretty accurate.  If the tech was competant there is no reason to believe they missed one.  It could however, be the afterbirth, which tends to be a big mass and can cause an infection.

Did your vet give a shot of oxytocin to clean her out while she was there?  If not, you should request it.
