Question
Hello, My name is Gina and I have a quite a Few Questions, I hope you don't' mind...
I want to Breed my two year old Female Toy Chihuahua (She has never been pregnant Before) with my friends Toy Poodle to get a Chipoo. I've read as much As I can about Chihuahuas and whelping but I can't seem to understand a few things.
Q1: Does my Chihuahua need to be taken to the vet when she is about to give birth? I heard that Chihuahuas have Difficulty Giving birth.
Q2: When is the right time to Take the Puppies away from its mother to begin training?
Q3: What is the average litter size for Chihuahuas?

Does

Answer
A1. She may. It depends on a few things. Keep her very healthy during pregnancy, give her plenty of exercise. Don't allow her to get too fat. If she gets too fat, then the puppies can get too fat, leading to a c-section.

A2. There's no reason to take the puppies away from mom. As long as mom wants to be around them, she can teach them way more than humans can. (Of course human interaction is very important. Mom can teach them how to be a dog, and doggie manners.)Most people sell their puppies when they're 8 weeks old. This is a good age. You can still teach them, however, when they are with mom.

A3. An average litter for this breed is 3-4.

My best advice for you would be to read up on Chiuahuas, and Poodles. Especially since you plan on mixing the two breeds. This means that the puppies will have both good and bad of both breeds. (This also means possible health problems of both breeds.) If I can be of anymore help, let me know!
