Question
My Chihuahua had her puppies yesterday 6/1/08. She had 4 babies after 57 days. Is that a problem? They are fin, but it was my first time...so I was very worried... What should i feed the mother that won't affect the puppies?
My Chihuahua is 4 years old and is a wonderful mother.

Answer
Hi Adriana

Congrats! Did you breed her over a course of a few days or only once?  Pups, much like human babies, come when they are ready.

The best thing to feed your female is puppy food.  A good quality food, Timberwolf, Solid Gold, Canidae, etc.

On a side note, you want to be very careful handling the pups, Chi's are born with open fontanels (top of their skulls -- the brain is right under the skin).

Good luck!
