Question
I have a "Chorkie" that is apparently about 10 months old and has not had a cycle yet. I am wondering if you could let me know when I would breed her and how I would know when she is ready. Another question, she apparently has a "herniated umbilical" and I don't know if that would affect her breeding.

Answer
Hi Kathy:

Breeding should be delayed until she's a minimum of 18 months to two years of age; however, with an umbilical hernia it's usually not advisable to breed as it may cause a more serious hernia. Normally this can be easily corrected during spaying. I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian about having this repaired & whether or not he feels it's safe to breed her in the future.
