Loss of Fur After Giving Birth

Question
I just got a new Pomeranian, and she's a little over a year old. She gave birth
before I got her, and has lost a lot of her fur. I know this is normal, but when
will she get her full coat back? Thanks!

Answer
Hi. Wow, she's just a year old and has already had a litter? That's really young. Fur loss is normal after whelping. However, I'm not sure what you're talking about here. If she has bald spots, I'd take her to the vet. If her fur has just thinned out, then she should grow her coat back out within a few months at least. Some girls is just takes a bit longer to get over all of those hormones, and takes long to grow their coat back in. If she has bald spots or is itchy, then I'd get her to the vet. If it's just normal post-whelping coat blowing, then just make sure that she's on a good food, and it should come back in shortly. Good luck.
