EATING POO

Question
I have a shih tzu bitch and she eats her poo straight after she has done it in the garden or sometimes accidently in the house. Do you think this has anything to do with being pregnant or could there be something wrong with her.

No and Yes... we all have at least one poo eating Tzu in our group.  It is something that they learn from their mom when they are born.  Some puppies pick up the habit and never stop, some never do it and some just do it on occassions.  Anyway, she may just be doing it to clean up her tracks because she is pregnant and doesn't want to leave a trail for the predators to find her if she is close to delivering.  She could be doing it for spite, she could be doing it because of something she is lacking in her diet they eat double intake during the last 3-4 weeks of their pregnancy.  She should be on a good Puppy food and not an adult food during pregnancy.  Also, no calcium supplements.  She should only get calcium once she delivers the puppies. Hope this helps and good luck.  If it really bothers you check with your vet about a product for poo eaters if it is safe to give pregnant dogs they make products just for this.
