Question
I am getting a puppy her adult weight is going to be around 5 pounds.  I have a male that is about 11 pounds.  My question is can they be breed together.  I am not sure if you need to have them closer in weight or if the female has to be larger then the male?  I don't plan on breeding them for quiet a while but still am wondering and can not find info on it.  Thank you very much Nikki

Answer
Hello Nikki, Sounds like your girl will be a small Shih Tzu.  You will want to have the female tested for genetic problems.  ( the male, too)
Your Vet can measure her pelvis and talk to you about a possible C-Section.
She can get pregnant but may need a C-Section operation to deliver large pups.

HERE is a good site about the problems that can arise from Breeding and Whelping Shih Tzus-
Please give it a good read over:  ( don't go into this blind)

Please consult the Vet before breeding the two.  ( I know she is just a pup, but be careful)

BEST wishes and Happy 2011!
