12 year old female poodle

I have a sweetheart female poodle Dixie who was 12 years old last week.  Is it possible that she can still come into heat.  She is acting very strange with  my 10 year old male poodle  ( Walter).   She growls at him if he gets anywhere near her.  This is not her personality.  Thank you for any info.  Lynn

I am not an expert regarding this subject, because I spay or neuter all my animals as soon as I can....but the type of poodle may have something to do with it.  If a toy or teacup, 12 years old isn't as old (lifespan wise) as a 12 year old standard poodle. I'd say anything is possible and just as we go into premenopausal and menopausal symptoms, she may be.  

She may also be feeling her age and may have a touch of arthritis and just not want to be messed with. For that I'd suggest a baby aspirin a day.

I wish you luck and wish I could be more definite, but truly the size of the animal has some bearing on it.  You may want to give your vet a quick call for a definitive answer from a professional.  

I would have marked "I can't help with that" but I just feel that is so rude so I don't usually do that.  I've given you all the knowledge I have on the subject though.
