Change in behavior

Question
I have an 8 yr old female and recently her behavior has changed, which makes me afraid there is something wrong. For the entire time I have had her she has been self-sufficient meaning she will pursue attention when she wants it and go lay down when she doesn't. She is still fairly active for her age with an 18 month old Springer Spaniel and the normal routine has been we play in the morning, I go to work and we play for awhile at night. (They have .4 acre fenced in to exercise.)

This week though she has wanted to be everywhere the springer is; right next to me on the couch, under my feet while I am on the computer hiding in the bathtub when I get out, etc. Tonight she did something even more odd; she kept running to the basement door and when I let her down she ran around and then hid in the back of a closet under a set of shelves and laid there.

Her disposition has not changed, she is still happy and is not showing signs of any meanness creeping in, but I don't get the behavior. Is it a game for her or is there something wrong that I should see to?

Answer
Unfortunately, without seeing the specific behaviors, it can be very difficult to give you an accurate indication of what is happening there.  The fact that you have a husky does allow me to think that there is a good possibility that it's a game.  They have strange play modes they get into at times, and that's a possibility.  However, you know your dog better than anyone, and if you notice the change, I would go in and have a vet check it out - it's worth the check for the peace of mind if nothing else.  The dog wanting to hide in strange places can be a "nesting" behavior, but at 8 years old, she's getting a little old for that.

I think the good side is that she probably is fine, just being a goofy dog - but I would still suggest taking her in to check things out.  Also, keep an eye on diet, stools, energy levels, etc.  If you notice any changes there - I would definitely take her in.
