Question
This is my first Husky. I have 2 children ages 5 & 8 who play outside a lot in an unfenced area. Can you recommend a way to let her play in this area. Both children can't hold her by a leash the whole time they are playing. Yet I want her to be able to sit with the kids and play. There is no way she will just sit there without taking off. Also, can you recammend a good book or video for educating me on the breed?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

It is hard to train a husky just to sit and play with you or children outdoors on a leash.  You might have to put up and fence to keep her in the yard with your children.  An invisible fence might work.  I know they are experience, but it is worth it to have your Husky to play with your children.  A training collar might also when you are outdoors.  You should be able to get those at Pet smart.  I have never tried the collar, so I can't guarantee that it will work.  Your best change is putting up a fence or invisible fence, because Siberian Huskies are runner.

A couple of books I would recommended.

Essential Siberian Husky by Howell Book House

The Siberian Husky by Michael Jennings

How to Train your Siberian Husky by Liz Polika

Siberian Huskies for Dummies by Diana Morgan

I hope this answers your question.  I also hope you can find a solution to your problem, so your Husky can play outdoors with your children.

Thank you and Good Luck,
Laura
