Husky cross changed toilet habits

Question
Hi,

We collected a collie/husky cross (more husky than collie) from a rescue centre a few days ago. She hasn't been spayed yet as she is still underweight but we are hoping to do this in a week or so when she gets her feet back so to speak. She is thought to be 12-14mths old.

She seems fine with regard to toilet training in so much as she always goes outside but when she first came home she went on the patio which was fine - easy to clean up after her. We just collected her 'presents' and washed it down afterwards.

Now she moves out to the garden and always deposits in roughly the same area. If possible we would like her to come back to the patio, or if at all possible, train her to go in a specific area further down the garden.

Do you have any advice on how to achieve this?

Many thanks

Answer
Unfortunately I don't in this case.  Usually the way to encourage dogs to go in a specific place and praise that behavior.  Most of the time we establish this by having the dog on lead, and taking them outside to the same "bathroom" spot each time.  By repetition, they learn that this is the appropriate place to eliminate.  However, in your case, it sounds like the dog is already housetrained, and your are trying to teach a specific place outside.

My guess is that as her confidence in her new surroundings has allowed her to explore other areas and be more adventurous.  I'm not sure that "correcting" her to return to a bathroom spot would be beneficial in the long run.
