Question
i just got a little puppy 5 weeks old so adorable even people that hate dogs <love her> she is news paper trained and i leave the news paper in my room so when she is in my room she will do her business on the newspaper (pee pads under the paper) as soon as she runs around the house she decides to poop and pee on my moms carpets. how can i prevent this from happening. my house has lots of steps so she is still scared to go up and down. can you please tell me what to do? and also my puppy is really good she doesn't bark but i work full time and go to school some nights so those nights she will be alone. i am worried about her. how long would she be able to stay alone. she has lots of toys to play with. and i don't lock her in a crate

Answer
I am sorry it took me a while to get back to you, I am honestly very irritated that someone would let you bring home a 5 week old pup. She won't know how to intereact with other dogs properly when she gets older I think I pup shouldn't go home till it is 8 weeks old. The mother teaches the pup alot of stuff from week 4-8 socal skills. Keep her exsposed to other dogs so she can learn what is rude and what isn't, that way she won't unknowingly offend another dog. She will have no bladder controll till she is 8 weeks old and it still won't be perfect (about 50%) they get total bladder controll when they are about 4 months old and they they can only hold it for a maximum of 5 hours. Because she is 4-5 weeks old now I hope you have a room to confine her in at least so her doens't go to bathroom all over your house while you are gone. She won't have confidence to climb the stairs for a while. Pups that leave there mom to early also take a bit to get confidence. Mom is there security blanket and shows them what to do and how to handal new exsperiances. My pups always climb the stairs with mom at 6 weeks old. You are going to have to show her things like the mother dog would. You have alot of work ahead of you. Also do not bring her out in public alot yet. They still nurse at this age so she is lacking her mothers antibodies and can get serously sick. Be carefule with her and get her in for her vaccination at 8 weeks.
