husky/lab mix

Question
i have a 5 month old female lab/husky mix named siren...

okay, so ive read alot about how huskies should not be trusted off the leash. i understand why, siren definatly is pretty stubborn and independent. Yet, she does pretty well off leash at times, i only train her off leash a little. I live on a 30 acre farm, with 5 or so other dogs that are completly trained to be off leash and stay on our property. this is MY first dog, however. most of the other dogs are pit mix. right now when she spends most of her time outside shes tied to a long rope thats tied to a rim that i can move around to the different spots on the farm, wherever i may be working. i work on long leash training, and i use a lot of positive reinforcement, most of my friends tell me i dont "beat" her enough, but, ive noticed this aggressive way of discipline doesnt seem to work on her, it makes HER more aggressive, which is something i work hard against. I'm curious what you think about the probability of her being able to be off leash on the farm, like the other dogs. I've read youre other answers about huskies being off leash, but since siren is half lab, what do you think the chances are?... and do you have any tips on how to train her. i spend most of my time with her, and dont mind putting effort into training her, i would like her to be a very very well behaved dog, and i understand that takes time and effort.thanks

Answer
Even though she is part Lab it sounds like she inherited the Siberian mind set. If she had a Lab mind set you could of had her off leash from day 1. Since her personality is a mixed one, I cannot answer you with 100% certainty. But I will say if she has a Siberian mind she should never be trusted off leash. When I was small I had 2 dogs one a Shepherd/Siberian mix the other a lab/shepherd mix. I can tell you from experience the Siberian mix was never left off lead because she would be gone. The a Siberian cannot be trained to be off lead, your few years or so of training a dog is going against thousands of years of breeding them to be the way they are. You cannot train genetics, sorry to say.
