New Dane Owners

Question
To the potential dane owners out there who are coming here for advice - take heed from a dane owner/breeder/handler.  This "expert" is not to be taken literally.  Please do your own research, join forums with real dane owners, ask vets, ask breeders......  Talk to others and get many opinions.

Mr. Humphries I implore you to offer advice to UK dane owners only as this seems to be your area of expertise.
Why/How do you consider yourself an expert?
I could give you names & numbers to many breeders in the states who've been showing, handling and breeding for over 40 years - yet they still yearn to learn.  If they don't know for a fact about something, THEY ASK.

Answer
I have specialised in danes for 34 years and am still learning.  I deliberately did not take on other breeds so that I clould concentrate on danes.

Since your group of cranks has started this discussion I have had many breeders approach me and say that they agree with my comments and do cull deaf dogs.  People in the UK do not have the space to allow dogs to run free in safety.  I'm lucky, I have several large fields all securely fenced in which they can run.

The advice was given to a novice owner who would not have the specialist skills needed to train a deaf dog.

I spend a lot of time helping people to re-train dogs who are unruly and badly trained already.
