hi i a nearly 2 yr female great dane both her parents come from gd lines but mother was a merle and sire a harly she has always had weight issues only time she looks half gd is the 2 phantom pregz she has had she has just been spayed as i was told it is best to wait till they have stopped growing to get them spayed she also suffers from seperation anxiety she is fed bonnie working dog and raw pet mince from my local butchers but still doesnt seem to put wait on i have had her the chiropracter has her mid spine show badly no matter what had have been told this is a birth defect could this have anything to do with her wieght its embarressing taking her out in public i do have another pedigree blue dane who is a solid bitch and she is lower in thepack HELP please

I cannot tell you whether or not this is a genetic defect or a birth defect. However it is very irresponsible to breed a Merle Great Dane as they tend to have more health problems and also tend to pass it down to their offspring. This may or may not have something to do with it.

I would recommend that you put her on a higher protein food. Try Taste of the Wild but not the Pacific Stream, try the Highland Prairie which is the Venison and Bison Meat. You will have to watch her to make sure that she is also not gaining the weight too quickly.

Have your veterinarian run a blood panel to eliminate any other potential health problems.

Without knowing the pedigree of her parents and what health problems they have, that is all that I can tell you with this information.
