My Great Dane

Question
My 11 month old male Great Dane is not eating very often. He usually only eats about 2-3 cups of food per day no matter how often I give him food. There is usually always food in his bowl. I'm worried he is not getting enough nutrition. I feed him Nutro Natural Choice large breed puppy food. He weighs about 120 pounds, and we go for a 2 mile walk once a day and a couple other shorter walks. He is really skinny and you can see his ribs. He will eat his food if i put some sort of sauce or something in his food. What do you suggest??

Answer
Rachel,

If your Dane is not gaining weight, but you are still walking him 2 miles a day he is burning more calories then he is eating. If you are going to walk him for 2 miles, he needs to eat at least 8-9 cups a day to maintain the right weight.

Try a different food if the Nutro is not working. I would try a mix of Evo/Innova Red Meat Formula do 50/50 of each of the foods. These foods are more expensive but they will help your Dane gain the weight that he needs.

Make sure that you follow the suggested mixture when switching him over so that you do not cause diarrhea.

Sorry for the late response, I am currently out of town and I forgot to set my vacation setting.

I hope this will help.

Also, have you had him tested for internal parasites??
