Question
My 2 year old Dane woke me up every two hours last night to relieve himself, first time it has ever happened, should I be worried and/or what other symptoms should I be looking for?  He's eating good.  I did recently change his food (2 different kinds - Purina One and Pedigree - Large Breed) from Royal Canin - Giant Breed.  Today I switched back to Royal Canin.

Answer
Sometimes dogs just like humans have one of those days where they are not feeling good and need to relieve themselves more times then just once. I would watch him for a few days just to make sure that he does not have a urinary tract infection. If you notice that it is hard for him to urinate, or that it looks like he is in pain, I would take him into the vet just to be on the safe side. Also, if you notice blood in his urine, then you need to go to the vet right away as there may be some sort of inner infection.

Watch him for a few days, if he is consistent about not being able to hold it all night, when he has been since you have had him, there maybe some type of underlying problem that only the vet will be able to determine. Once in a while dogs will just have an inconsistency. Like I said before, if the problem persists for more than a few days, 4-5 maximum, I would take him into the vet for further evaluation.
