Question
QUESTION: I currently have a female dane and she is only 100 lbs. My friend has a female and she is almost twice the size of mine. I prefer the larger size danes and I wanted to know when looking at puppies how can I tell if the puppy will grow up to be a larger dane? Are males a lot larger than females?

ANSWER: If she is under 4 yrs of age I wouldn't worry about it,she is still filling out. Males are bigger than females no matter what breed. .when picking a puppy look at the parents,if they are big for the breed chances are the offspring will be too. Go to a rescue and pickc out a young aged dane that is big,you will be able to tell more by looking at a younger one*round a yr old how big they wil get than you will a puppy. I hope you are not thinking of gettin rid of your current dane because she is smaller than you want-she cannot help that and that is NOT a good reason to get rid of a dog. Did you know that there are over 7 million Homeless dogs in the USA and about half of those will be euthanized because there are not enough homes?Think about that when you go to a breeder or think about giving up yur dog.

QUESTION: OMG no! I would never do that! I got her from animal control. I am looking for a friend for her is all. I wanted to get a bigger one. I am not the type to drop my dog off, and I don't appreciate being accused of doing so.

Answer
I wasn't trying to sound like I was accusing...I apologize that it came off that way.  I am glad you are not the type to drop off your dog but yea, look at the size of the parents and that should give you a good idea. Our male is  37 inches tall 180 lbs and 4 yrs old,at 3 yrs he was only 160,his mom was tall for a female and his dad was avg height and 200lbs (supposedly)at 2 yrs old.
