Owning a Dane

Question
My husband and I are devoted Dane lovers and at the present time own 4 Dane puppies.  We originally had only 2 Duke who is 8 months and Drake who is 4 months and our breeder gave us as a gift our third Dane Diesel who is 8 weeks but in the litter was a beautiful puppy just like Duke mostly white with blue eyes and is deaf.  Duke is partially deaf out of one ear but can still hear, from a far he can't distinguish where the sound is coming from unless he looks  around or at Drake especially at the dog park so we call him over with sign language which works well.  This deaf puppy broke our hearts so the breeders asked us if we wanted the puppy as they wanted a good home that they knew would love him. We decided to take him home as we felt we already have a partially deaf puppy Duke and have learned sing language from our dog trainer in order to properly communicate with him and at the same time we included Drake to learn sign language as well.

My question is the following.  The deaf puppies names by the way is Sky which is Diesel's brother at 8 weeks old he is very young compared to Duke, where do I begin in training my deaf puppy?  Can you recommend other Dane owner's that have a deaf Dane so that I can get more insight on their personal experiences and what they did and how? We did not find out Duke was partially deaf until the trainer stepped in at the age of 6 months and sense he could hear it wasn't difficult to train him but Sky is completely deaf.

We love all our puppies and sense they are all puppies we have our hands full but we will take every measure possible to make them live a happy healthy loving life so if possible can you advise me on how to begin this process with Sky?

Answer
Because of all the difficulties and potential hazards with deaf dogs, responsible breeder usually have them euthenazed.  They should never be allowed to run free except in the confines of a secure area.

Never leave alone with a small child.

Sign language is fine if the dog is looking at you but if it is running away, how will you stop it running into the road and causing an accident?

As far as i know there are no books on teaching sign language to dogs.  Normal obedience books will help.  I always teach my dogs sign language, but they are also trained to look at me when I call them, they can hear very well.
