Question
Well new to owning a great dane and nervous as I have had him for about three blissfull weeks but he has started salivating and has vomited a few times in the last few days.  He is an early 3 and came form a very controlled environment among other danes. we have lots of fun together and he is very happy. I fed him a rib bone and now nervous maybe it is caught in his throat as he has never had them before. When i feel his esophogus the top near his head is larger and it drops down to half the size about 1/4 way down. If you feel your danes esophogus is it the same. maybe paranoid but better safe than sorry.  He swallows alot and is drewling more than normal. His temp is okay and he is acting the same except for the drewl and vomit.  He ate some today and kept it down but seems to gag a little here and there. will take him to vet tomorrow but only real concern is the size of their esophogus.  could you check one of yours and see if top to bottom any changes in size?

Answer
If you feel that there is something in your puppy's throat that should not be there you need to go to the vet as soon as you can. If he is swallowing and is able to hold down food and water then I do not think that he has something stuck in there...However feeding him a rib bone may have scratched up his esophagus and now he is having a hard time swallowing. There should not be a change in the size of the esophagus unless it is irritated...
