Great Dane Weaning Diet

Question
I saw in a previous question 2006 that Ken emailed a weaning diet sheet to someone.  I have 13 Dane pups who will need weaning eventually.   Momma doesn't even have enough milk for them now.  I will begin supplementing and it has only been three days (born 12/13/09) but she has 13 with only 8 ninnies producing.
with thanks, Brenda

Answer
I am sorry but I do not have the weaning diet sheet, and Ken is no longer an expert on this forum. As I tell many people on here, if you are going to breed a litter of puppies, beforehand you should have all of the knowledge in order to be able to raise and maintain that litter of puppies.

As far as weaning is concerned, if they were just born you have a ways to go, but if mom is not producing enough milk, they will need to be bottle fed and rotated onto the nipples every two hours.

Weaning should not be done until the puppies are 5 weeks old, and the only thing you need to wean them onto is a high quality large breed adult dog food mush and you can add goats milk to make it taste better. I would of course watch the puppies when they are eating to make sure that everyone is getting a good amount of food.

**EDIT**I just went back into my other pending questions and that is when I saw that you had rescued this dog from someone only to discover she was pregnant, so I apologize for my blunt manner before. I just have too many people on here specifically coming and asking me questions on how to breed their dogs when they have not even done health testing nor do they plan to.

With that being said, if you would like to send me a private message with your personal email address I will gladly give you any advice to help you through this whole process.
