Change in behavior after rabies shot

Question
I'm asking this question for a friend who has an 8 month old great dane who has not been himself after having a rabies shot.  A few hours after getting his shot he started barking, howling, running around the house in circles, and pooping all over the place.  He seems to be afraid of everything. This odd behavior has happened every day since Monday, with the exception of Thursday.  My friend took him to her vet to see if there were any side effects to the rabies shot and she was told the shot would not cause him that act this way.  She took him to a diff. vet and they said it could be the smell of coyotes outside and that's whats making him act that way.  He had blood work done and everything came back fine.  Her dog was also on Ivermectin for mange.  Could this medication cause him to have these side effects?  He was a normal happy, loving puppy up until he got his rabies shot.  Do you have any advise you could offer.  I would really appreciate it.  Thank You..

Answer
Tina,

From the research that I have done the symptoms you are describing are not concurrent with the rabies vaccine. I am not sure why the puppy's behavior has changed so drastically over the last few days. If the veterinarian has done blood work and everything has come back fine the only thing I can tell you is that it may just be behavioral, and the timing might have just happened at the same time the rabies vaccine was administered. The Ivermectin would not cause this type of behavior. I think it might just be age related. There is a possibility that the vet is right when he says that he might be getting irritable because of the coyotes outside. Sorry I could not be more help but I have never experienced those side effects relating to vaccinations.
